SplitChey Private Limited ("SplitChey", "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share information when you use our expense tracking, bill splitting, group finance, digital wallet, and business invoicing platform (the "Service"). This policy is issued pursuant to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and applicable Indian data protection regulations.
1. Introduction & Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how SplitChey Private Limited ("SplitChey", "we", "us", or "our"), a company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 (CIN: U62011AP2026PTC127531), collects, uses, stores, and discloses your personal and financial information when you use our expense tracking, bill splitting, group finance, digital wallet, and business invoicing platform (the "Service"). This policy applies to all users of the Service and is designed to comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable Indian data protection laws. By accessing or using our Service, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information necessary to provide and improve our Service. This includes personal identification data (name, email address, phone number, profile photograph), financial transaction data (bank account details, UPI IDs, wallet balances, expense records, invoices), device and browser information (IP address, device type, operating system, browser version), and usage data (log files, session duration, feature interactions, crash reports). We collect the minimum data required to operate the Service and do not access information beyond what is necessary for your transactions.
3. How We Collect Information
Information is collected directly from you when you register, create groups, record expenses, link payment methods, or communicate with us. We also collect certain information automatically through your use of the Service, including log data, device identifiers, and usage patterns via cookies and similar technologies. In some cases, we receive information from third-party payment processors and financial institutions solely to facilitate and verify transactions you initiate within the Service.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve the Service, process expense splitting and settlement transactions, generate invoices and financial summaries, facilitate group and wallet management, send transaction confirmations and account notifications, detect and prevent fraud, unauthorized access, and other security incidents, comply with legal and regulatory obligations, and communicate service updates, offers, and support. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Financial Data Handling
Financial data is treated with the highest level of security. All sensitive payment information is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption at rest and transmitted via SSL/TLS protocols. We act solely as a technology platform and do not store complete banking credentials. Digital wallet funds are held through RBI-regulated payment gateways, and SplitChey does not custody user funds. Transaction data is retained only as long as required for business, accounting, and regulatory purposes, and access to financial records is restricted to authorized personnel on a strict need-to-know basis.
6. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We share information only with trusted service providers who assist in operating the Service (hosting, analytics, payment processing), with law enforcement or regulatory authorities when legally required, with your express consent, or as necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of SplitChey, our users, or the public. All third-party service providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it solely for the purposes for which it was shared.
7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest, SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, multi-factor authentication, intrusion detection systems, regular security audits, and strict internal access controls. Our infrastructure is hosted on SOC 2 compliant cloud servers. While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal and financial information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Transaction records are retained for a minimum of five (5) years as required under applicable Indian tax and financial regulations. Upon account deletion, we will retain only the data necessary for legal compliance and will remove all other personal data within 90 days.
9. Your Rights
In accordance with the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the right to access and obtain a copy of your personal data, correct inaccurate or incomplete data, request erasure of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements), restrict or object to the processing of your data, and request data portability in a structured, commonly used format. You may exercise these rights by contacting us at the details provided below. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Users between 13 and 18 years of age may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside India. We ensure that any international data transfers comply with the DPDP Act, 2023, and that adequate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses, are in place to protect your data. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to jurisdictions that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
12. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to maintain session state, remember your preferences, analyse service usage, and detect security threats. Essential cookies required for the Service to function cannot be disabled. Analytics and preference cookies may be managed through your browser settings.
